Getting started
BarksBook is organized around a few connected records: customers, pets, services and bookings. A typical setup begins with your business settings, service catalog and vaccine requirements. Once those are ready, customers can create accounts, add pets and submit booking requests.
Business setup
Owners and authorized administrators can manage business settings from the admin area. Keep your business name, timezone, currency and booking-related settings accurate because these values are used throughout the business account.
Staff access should be assigned according to each person’s responsibilities. Only give settings, user-management or agreement-management permissions to team members who need them.
Hosting & platform access
BarksBook is a hosted software (SaaS) platform. Your subscription provides access to your branded BarksBook booking system and administration area. BarksBook manages the hosting, infrastructure, platform updates and maintenance, so separate hosting is not required.
Services
Create the services customers can request, such as daycare, boarding or add-ons. Each service can be configured with its price and availability rules. Review service availability whenever your hours, capacity or seasonal schedule changes.
Customers & pets
Customer records contain account and contact information. Each customer can have one or more pets. Pet profiles keep the operational details your team needs when handling bookings and vaccine compliance.
Customers can manage their own account and pet information through the customer portal, while staff can review customer and pet records from the admin dashboard.
Bookings
BarksBook uses a request-and-confirm workflow. A customer submits the service and dates they want. The booking remains pending until an authorized staff member reviews it and confirms it. This gives your team control over capacity, pet requirements and any special circumstances before committing the space.
- Customer selects a service and pet.
- Customer submits the requested schedule or dates.
- Staff reviews availability and requirements.
- Staff confirms or manages the request.
- The booking remains visible to both staff and the customer.
Vaccinations
Use vaccine types to define the records your business requires. Customers can provide vaccination information for their pets, and staff can review those records as part of the booking workflow. Your business remains responsible for deciding which vaccinations, documents and expiration rules are required for the services you provide.
Agreements & policies
Agreement templates let you present contracts, releases or operating policies that customers must accept or sign. Keep templates concise, current and appropriate for your business. When you materially change an agreement, create or publish a new version rather than silently changing previously accepted terms.
Payments
When payments are enabled, BarksBook links payment activity to the related booking using supported payment providers. Payment availability, settlement timing and provider fees are subject to the payment provider’s own terms.
Apps & integrations
The Apps area is reserved for integrations that connect BarksBook with other business systems. QuickBooks, Klaviyo and Mailchimp are currently shown as coming soon. Install controls will become available as individual integrations are released.
